Qualifications for Office

By Tyler Edwards · May 31, 2021

2021-22 SCRCC Candidate Questionnaire

Here are my responses to the Stevens County Republican's questions regarding qualifications for office.

  1. Describe the legal requirements and qualifications for the office you seek.

The Kettle Falls School Board is a 5-member board that is responsible for the oversight, strategic planning, and governance of the school district. Board members are unpaid volunteers who meet regularly (subject to Open Public Meetings Act) to guide the school district’s administrative team. There is a steady drumbeat of financial, employment, policy, and planning decisions that must be addressed. Board members (and their decisions) are subject to US laws, the laws of the State of Washington, the governor’s decrees, State and County Department of Health, the Public Disclosure Commission, and their constituents (students, families, employees and community members).

  1. What education do you have that would be beneficial in your ability to serve in the office you seek?

I graduated Valedictorian from Curlew High School, and Magna Cum Laude from Whitworth University. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics.

  1. What experience do you have that would be beneficial in your ability to serve in the office you seek?

I’ve held this position for about 5 years. I’ve experienced the gamut of highs and lows the job provides, have experienced the travesty of the ‘pandemic’, and its effects on the school district constituents. I’ve hired and lost superintendents, vetted and approved budgets, and done long term planning. In my personal life I’m a business owner, volunteer and parent of four children.

  1. What involvement have you had with civic and community service organizations?

I’m a member of the Kettle Falls Booster Club, Kettle Falls Rotary, and Kettle Falls Town and Country Days committee. I’ve personally been responsible for the Grumpy Grouch Fun Run, and Slam Jam competitions the past 10 years.

  1. Is there any personal behavior (criminal conviction) or personal affiliation (with a person, group or organization), etc. which would raise a reasonable question as to your individual moral and ethical character?

No.
