Thankful for fall sports

By Tyler Edwards · September 7, 2021

Fall sports are upon us. Whew!

Last year there was no fall sports to speak of, and now I'm very thankful to see our fall sports seasons commence with a dose of normal.

As high schooler, I played three sports a year, and can only imagine what my disappointment would have been like had I had a season get cancelled. I broke a wrist playing baseball, and a bone in my hand playing basketball. Both were season ending injuries, and quite frustrating at the time. I lamented the spring season we lost in 2020, and the weirdness around the short delayed seasons (fall, winter and spring) this spring as an adult. Those occurrences would have been incredibly trying for the 90's version of me.

Kids need to play. They need to have games with fans. They need to have the busy of academics and sports. They need to have concession cheeseburgers.

Football was played in Kettle Falls during football season. The cheerleaders cheered. I got to watch a competitive game in front of a real crowd from my chain crew vantage point. Covid still is making messes (officials are triple booked so Friday night lights was out), my cheeseburger hasn't happened yet, and I'm guessing the Athletic Director will need to remake the schedule 40 more times. But... we have fall sports in the fall and I'm thankful!
