Why did the Kettle Falls School District delay the opening of the High School?

Our board met last Friday in an emergency session to discuss some troubling news... our High School Principal, and Vice Principal were in COVID quarantine for the entire first week of school. Much of our discussion centered around the abilities of each school (Elementary, Middle, and High) to open. All three buildings said they could open, but one issue was paramount. In order to open the high school on time we would have to flex our Middle School principal to cover the High School (while still covering the Middle School), and our two new administrators at the High School wouldn't get the opportunity to be at school that first week. The board decided to delay the opening of high school (till after Labor Day) while opening the Elementary and Middle schools. I want our kids in school, but it is also important to start the school year on the right foot.
